Hampshire & Isle of Wight Dementia Alliance launches during Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week, taking place from 18th to 24th May, is an important opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living with dementia and those who support them, while also recognising the positive progress being made locally.

This year, Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW is also marking a significant milestone with the launch of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Dementia Alliance — a new collaborative network focused on strengthening dementia support across the region.

The Alliance brings together people affected by dementia, family carers, dementia specialist community organisations, the local authority, Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, and other key partners. Its aim is to improve how support works in everyday life by encouraging closer collaboration and shared learning.

By working together, members aim to make it easier for people to access the right information, find appropriate services, and feel better supported within their communities.

Working together to improve dementia support the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Dementia Alliance has been formed around several key priorities:
– Bringing people and organisations together
– Sharing information and good practice
– Improving signposting to support
– Supporting more joined-up local services

Through stronger connections and collaboration, the Alliance seeks to build a more consistent and accessible support network for people affected by dementia across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Dementia can impact every aspect of daily life—not only for the person diagnosed, but also for their families and carers. A core focus of the Alliance is to reduce the barriers people face when trying to access help, ensuring that support is clearer, more connected, and easier to reach at the right time.

A shared commitment to progress
Dementia Action Week highlights the importance of understanding, inclusion and community-based support. The launch of the Alliance builds on this, creating a framework for ongoing collaboration so that improvements are not only discussed, but actively developed and embedded across the region.

For local communities, this will mean better communication between services, clearer pathways to support, and a stronger emphasis on lived experience to shape how services evolve.

Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW is an independent local charity supporting anyone affected by dementia, including people living with the condition, their families and friends. From the first signs of memory loss and throughout the dementia journey, the charity provides emotional and practical support through face-to-face services, online support and a dedicated helpline.
