We are absolutely delighted to share some very special news – our Founder and CEO, Helen Hamblen, has been named a finalist in the Dementia Care Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Dementia.
This recognition is a powerful reflection of Helen’s unwavering dedication and the impact she has made within our communities.
Helen’s journey began from a deeply personal place. After caring for her dad, she experienced first-hand the challenges, confusion and isolation that so many families face following a dementia diagnosis. Determined that no one should have to navigate that journey alone, she set out to create something better – and Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW was born.
Just four years on, that vision has grown into a thriving, compassionate support network. Today, with a dedicated team of five staff and more than 70 incredible volunteers, we provide support from the earliest signs of dementia and throughout every stage of the journey.
We now deliver 12 peer support groups across Hampshire and operate a helpline that guides families through what can often feel overwhelming and uncertain. Every conversation, every cup of tea shared at a group, and every moment of reassurance reflects Helen’s belief that better, more human support is not only possible – it’s essential.
We regularly hear from families who tell us that our support has been life-changing. These experiences are a testament to Helen’s passion, determination and the values at the heart of everything we do.
Helen’s nomination is not just a personal achievement – it is recognition of the difference that compassionate, community-led support can make.
Congratulations, Helen – and thank you for everything you have created for families across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We are incredibly proud of you!
