Melody for the Mind

Hosted by High Cross Church, Melody for the Mind sessions are friendly, fun group sessions which brings carers and their cared for together to take part in singing and a variety of musical activities. Particularly suitable for those with dementia and other memory problems.

Singing and attending a social activity such as Melody for the Mind has been shown to have positive effect on wellbeing and can be beneficial for people with dementia and other conditions.

Melody for the Mind was established at High Cross Church in 2010 and meets on the 1st and 3rd Friday each month from 1.30, and is free to all who attend.

1:30pm-2:00pm Tea and Chat

2:00pm-3:00pm Programme of musical activities.

The group is entirely run by volunteers, who have been dedicated to this group for many years.

Please come along and join in with this wonderful dementia friendly and supportive group and be sure of a warm welcome and a fun time.

Musical Moments Social Afternoon – Park Gate

Hosted by Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW. Every fourth Tuesday each month.

A drop in afternoon for family, friends, carers and those living with dementia. Enjoy a safe, relaxed afternoon with an emphasis on using music to enjoy and an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns with others. A selection of snacks and refreshments will be available in the beautiful environment of Florence Court Care Home in Park Gate.

A 45minute musical session, followed by refreshments. 2pm-3.30pm.

This is a free event hosted by Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW in partnership with Barchester Healthcare .

The event is open to anyone and everyone living with dementia, but particularly beneficial for people living with mid/later stage dementia, as music can relieve symptoms and enhance mood.

Havant Dementia Festival 2023

Havant’s first Dementia Festival takes place on Friday 16 June 2023 from 10:00am to 2.00pm at Havant Borough Council, Public Service Plaza, Civic Centre Road, Havant, PO9 2AX. A programme of events on the day can be found here.

This free event is an opportunity for people living with Dementia, their carers, friends and families to seek advice and support from local charities and organisations.

Just turn up and see what is on offer!

A marketplace of stalls and information stands will provide dementia-relevant support from the following organisations: Dementia Friendly Hants; Havant and Waterlooville Primary Care Network Dementia Team; The Blue Lamp Trust; Memory Assessment and Research Centre (MARC); Home Instead Havant; Recapture Life; Right At Home Havant; The Royal British Legion Admiral Nurses; Connect to Support Hampshire; Association for Dementia Studies; Dementia Carers Count; HCC – Shared Lives; Hampshire Library Service; Andover Mind; The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre; Portsmouth Water; Horizons Leisure Centre; Southern Water.

The festival will also include:

  • An interactive question and answer session on Lasting Powers of Attorney with Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and estate planning considerations for those with a diagnosis of memory issues/living with Dementia
  • Musical entertainment led by Kim Garner, Memory Choir
  • Arts and craft sessions provided by The Spring
  • Physical activity sessions provided by Horizon Leisure Centre and ‘Get Up and Go’ project
  • Free defibrillator session
  • Refreshments will be available

 

 

Free parking is available at the Civic Centre Office car parks (the car park opposite the Plaza by the Police Station plus the two car parks either side).
Please note – this does not include the Civic Centre Road East Car Park (by the Leisure Centre) or the Civic Centre Road North Car Park (by the Health Centre).

Music for Memories

This free event hosted by Avon Valley Dementia Support invites people with dementia and their carers to come along for a couple of hours of singing and companionship. Kettle goes on at 10.30am.

Love to Move

Dementia Action Week Event hosted by Oakhaven Hospice, join Jules for a free taster session of Love to Move, a fun, age and dementia friendly seated movement programme to music. Physical, emotional and cognitive benefits designed to get you moving more and to have fun!

“Buddy” workshop

Hosted by Romsey Dementia Action Group. Join us singing the songs of Buddy Holly, followed by an arts workshop, all provided by Mayflower Theatre.

Lordshill Memory Café

Hosted by Caraway, The Lordshill Memory Café is held twice a month on the 2nd & 4th Thursday at Lordshill Church, Lordhill District Centre from 1.30-3pm.

Lordshill Memory Café alternates between a themed reminiscence fostering nostalgic discussions in the second week of the month and a fun singing session in the fourth week.

The memory café is for those with memory problems, their carers and households living with dementia. Hosted in partnership with the Solent Admiral Nursing Team and Carers in Southampton. An Admiral nurse will be present when available.

Memory Lane Café

Hosted by Alton Community Association, this free drop in session is held between 11am-4pm every Wednesday, you can attend one session, 2 sessions or all day, the sessions are as follows…

Memory Café 11am-12.30pm – The Memory Lane Café is an opportunity for those with dementia or memory loss and their carers to meet with others for support, reminiscence and relaxation with games, craft activities, music, quizzes and more importantly tea, cake and companionship with lots of laughs along the way.

Love To Move/seated Tai Chi/Crafts 12.30pm-1pm – Alternating weekly between seated exercises/Tai Chi and creative craft sessions.

Friendship Lunch 1pm-2pm – Bring your own lunch or order from the Regency Café.

Gardening/Crafts & Afternoon Tea 2pm-4pm – Creative craft & gardening sessions.
