Based on a remarkable true story, ORDINARY ANGELS centers on Sharon Steves (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.

A special screening for people with Parkinson’s and Dementia, their carers, friends and family. The Screening is designed to put everyone at ease, with the sound slightly lowered and the lighting on low to ensure everyone is comfortable. Limited wheelchair spaces, pre booking advised via Reception. Disabled facilities throughout the Centre available. Join us after the film in the quiet room with a selection of Sandwiches, Cake, Unlimited Tea/Coffee and Orange Juice.

Dementia-Friendly Screening: The Wizard of Oz

A dementia-friendly screening of the technicolor musical classic, The Wizard of Oz, is taking place on Friday 21 June at 11.00am at Harbour Lights Picturehouse in Ocean Village, Southampton.

These screenings are open to all, but are especially catered for those living with dementia and their friends, family and carers. These screenings are made dementia-friendly by taking away the ads and trailers before the film, keeping the lighting on low, reducing the volume to a more comfortable level and adding a 20 minute interval roughly halfway through the film. You are also welcome to arrive 30 minutes before the film (which starts when stated) for free tea, coffee and biscuits and a chance to socialise in the bar area.

Tickets are just £4.30 – accompanying carers are admitted for free – and can be bought online https://www.picturehouses.com/cinema/harbour-lights or at the box office.

A dementia-friendly screening of the revered 1990 rom-com Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, is taking place on Tuesday 30 April at 11.00am at Harbour Lights Picturehouse in Ocean Village, Southampton.
