Support & Social Groups
Our weekly support & social groups are a great way to meet other’s living with dementia in your local area. They are for both the person with dementia and their family and friends, to come and enjoy some time together in a relaxed and non judgmental environment.
You can join in with activities such as arts & crafts, dominoes, rummikub, reminiscence, or simply enjoy a cuppa and chat, surrounded by people that understand what you are going through.
We also get together outside of the group, every year we organise a boat trip, an afternoon by the sea, a theatre trip, a festive themed afternoon tea with live music, and our annual Christmas Carols & Mince Pies. It’s entirely up to you to join in with whatever activities take your fancy!
If you need some extra support you can ask for 1:1 time with a staff member or volunteer and they can help you or make an appointment with our Helpline Advisor.
Our Musical Moments takes place once a month, where we enjoy some musical entertainment from a community choir, ukulele band, musician or singer, followed by tea/coffee and cake! You can sing-a-long, tap your toes, or get up and dance if want to…
The groups are led by our Peer Support Coordinator and supported by our wonderful team of volunteers, most of whom have lived experience of dementia through caring for a loved one.
All of our groups are free to attend, and are suitable for everyone living with dementia, at all stages of the dementia journey, including people with young onset dementia. Carers are welcome to attend alone or with their loved one with dementia, and people with early stage dementia can attend alone or with a family member or friend. If your loved one has mid-later stage dementia they will need to be accompanied by a family member or friend.
If you’d like to join our dementia community, you can pop along to any of the groups detailed below, or give us a call to find out more on 0344 324 6589.
We hope to see you there!
